Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art invites to an international curatorial seminar Re–Directing: East which will be dedicated to the role of hospitality in curatorial, activist and artistic practices.
Are such practices already a critical tool to be used against heterogenic institutional relations, and legal and political regulations? Or only with time can they become one? Can hospitality develop against commonly accepted norms?
Those questions have been asked to six invited curators, each of which observes the subject from a different perspective. The seminar is going to be an “open table,” a democratic debate where both the opinions of the curators and the voice of the audience will be valued.
During their month-long residency in Warsaw and in its outskirts, the invited participants have a chance to expand their perception of hospitality through confrontations with local context and artistic takes on the subject.
During the seminar the six curators will share the experience they have gathered over the span of their stay in Poland. We will thus ask two more questions: can modern hospitality be a community-shaping factor, and is it possible to avoid universalistic generalisations in the process?
Admission is free.
